Portrait

How did you use your own unique ideas in your work?

- I used my own unique idea by drawing a cartoon portrait of my younger brother Will. I did this because I really like drawing cartoon figures.

Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?

- I did find inspiration from the artist my art teacher showed us in class. His name is Kehinde Wiley. The portraits made by him are extremely different and unique from you everyday art portrait.

How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?

- I simply responded to challenges by looking at the plan sketch I drew and tried to proportion everything that wasn't.

Did your work take an unexpected turn due to a mistake or did something happen that was unplanned?

- The head turned out to be a little bigger than I expected but when I took a step back and thought about it, that's what makes it kind of unique. Nothing has to be perfect so I accepted that.

GIF

The name of this GIF is "Sleep!". In the first clip, it shows a cartoon character leaving school. In the second clip it shows her running across the street and a car honking because she is in the way. The third clip shows her running to her house and the last clip is her laying down in bed sleeping. This GIF really relates to me because all I want to do when I leave school and get home is SLEEP! So I thought it would be interesting to draw a cartoon figure GIF and make it into something that relates to me.

Print Making

Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?

- Yes, during this processes I learned a variety of different techniques. The first one I learned was how to use the cutter on the print piece and also what cut size to use. I found it interesting what each one could do to make your  print look better when it came time to be stamped. Also, I learned how to use different colors with the stamp to make one section stand out more than another.

Did you gain skill with familiar materials?

- Yes, I gained more skill with the paint. I've used paint in the past but not particularly like this.

How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?

- The way I responded to challenges was by just making the best out of it. If I tended to mess up on something, I would stop and think creatively.

Did your work take an unexpected turn due to a mistake or did something happen that was unplanned?

- Something unexpected that happened was when I started printing my print, the "tv" part didn't stand out like I thought it would so I had to go back and cut it out then print it on top of all the other prints. Also, when I first tried to draw the words "Music Television" it got too clumped together so I had to rearrange the words on the print.

My Definition of Art:

Art is anything and everything made with a creative sense.

After seeing what other people believe is art, I think my definition is pretty valid.

Origami Project

Questions 6 & 7:

6. How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?
- I responded to the challenges I faced by making it into my own origami shape. As I tried to create pieces I found on the Internet, I came across plenty of complications. For example, when I tried to make a rose it turned out to look a little bit like a spider or a 4-legged creature. One thing I learned while doing this project is to improvise when challenges come your way.

Did your work take an unexpected turn due to a mistake or did something happen that was unplanned?
- My work took an unexpected turn due to a mistake. As I said for the question above, I tried to make a rose but it looked more like an animal so I just worked off of that.

7. When did you step back and analyze you work during this project?
- I stepped back and analyzed my work when I realized that my piece was beginning to look a lot like a face. Since I saw it looked like a face, I chose to improvise and add parts to the project to make it look more and more like that. I had no clue when I started this project that I would be creating a face but that's that point of art right? Expect the unexpected:)
