Land Art

Questions:

How did you use your own unique ideas in your work?

- I came up with the idea to draw my name on the ground by using a muddy clay rock. The reason for this is because I thought it would be cool to use something from nature as chalk.

Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?

- Well basically my source of inspiration came from chalk. Since it's a land art project, using muddy clay rock seemed like a good idea.

Did you try something that you weren’t sure about as part of this project?

- I tried writing my name with an unfimiliar substance. It worked to my advantage and make my name bolder.

Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?

- The material I picked was a muddy clay rock like I stated above. I don't think a lot of people would look at clay as something to write with but I noticed how it leaves marker-like prints on concrete. Overall that's the main reason why I did my project this way(:

Sculpture

Questions:

What is this artwork intended to say?

- This artwork is intended to just make you think about summer and all the beach memories.

What issues are you examining through your artwork?

- The issues that I am coming across currently is how to make certain pieces of my project stand out. At first I wasn't really sure how to carve things out in the clay but then I got help from my teacher and took off from there.

How is this artwork about who you are or what you like?

- This artwork describes what I really love, which is the beach. It makes me think about all the fun moments i've had with family members and friends and it really is just a fun place to kick back and chill. I also love the calm sound of the waves when you are laying down in the sand. It's extremely relaxing and that's mainly why I love it.

Did you try something that you weren't sure about as part of this project?

- Yes, I wasn't sure how to make the drawing I drew on a piece of paper put onto clay. So I had to get a little more familiar with everything and then it all worked out.

Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?

- Yes, we had an option of what materials we wanted to use and I decided to go with clay. I've played with clay before for fun but never really as an art project. So this was kind of new to me but I enjoyed it.

Perspective

Category 3: One point perspective

How did you use your own unique ideas in your work?

- I used my own unique ideas in multiple ways. At first, I was going to make my picture one point perspective with buildings on each side. Well, after drawing the right side of the street first, I thought it would be unique to put a country like area on the left side. So that's what I did to make it different from what you normally see. My motive behind making this piece was New York. People mainly know New York for its city but there is also a countryside to it. So I thought it would be kind of cool to show both views.

Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your ideas to make it original?

- Well I did see a one point perspective picture of a city and the road narrowing more and more as you got to the top of the page. That's when I thought about New York City and also its countryside.

Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?

- Yes, the new technique I learned how to do was one point perspective. Before this project, I kind of knew how to do one point perspective but i've learned interesting tricks and ways to make your art piece look more and more a certain perspective.

Did you gain skill with familiar materials?

- Yes, I gained more skill sketching with pencil and coloring with colored pencils.
